The Chris Vadala Story

Picture
Me, Chris Vadala, and Mary Sugar
I'm asked "How did you get Chris Vadala to play on your CD?" Well that was sort of lightning in a bottle. I actually have Facebook to thank for it, oddly enough ! I was posting a message to the wall of the lead singer of the power show band I was in during college, and another old friend I hadn't talked to in years, Mary Sugar, posted on the thread asking if it was me. I told her it was; as we were old friends in high school. We got talking about a Facebook “note” I’d posted about albums that most influenced me and why, and she mentioned her #1 was the same as mine (Chuck Mangione Live at the Hollywood Bowl). Then she said “You know, Chris Vadala is a friend of mine…”  Two emails later, I was negotiating with him to play!! (Side note for those who may not know; Chris Vadala was Chuck Mangione’s sax/flute player through the 1970s and 1980s, during Chuck’s heyday, he is a two-time Grammy® winner and an Emmy® winner…) Eternal thanks to Mary for hooking me up with one of my lifelong heroes and idols!

Also thanks!!!

To James Bazen at Music Unlimited! He is responsible for the artful and effortlessly transparent recordings of Chris Vadala's flute and sax!
