Abby Song Story
I originally wrote Abby in 2003, when my wife was pregnant with our daughter
Abby. I wanted to write a song that reflected my hopes for a bright, sunny,
whimsical child. I wrote the tune, and recorded most of it, all except the solo
sections. (I habitually hire them out, and hadn’t sought out people yet). We
played it frequently for her in utero (via headphones). I wanted it to be the
first music she ever heard in this world, so I had a boom box in the delivery
room cued up. When Abby was delivered, I cut the cord, they cleaned her up,
handed her to me, and she was crying up a storm, as newborns are inclined to do.
I walked over to the box, hit Play, and she froze. She sat there, in my arms,
listening to the entire song. It was a bizarre, heavenly, unforgettable moment.
