Autumn Breeze Song Story
This was the third song I ever wrote. It was written in the fall of 1983,
mostly in the kitchen of the girl I was dating at the time. She was an
astoundingly brilliant flautist, and could pretty much sight read anything I
threw at her. So, I had a good time putting challenging flute melodies together,
writing many tunes for her and her abilities.
At the time, I was very inspired and influenced by the music of Chuck Mangione. My favorite album of all time is Mangione’s “Live at the Hollywood Bowl”. The song “Chase the Clouds Away” is one of the most beautiful songs ever written, in my opinion. When I was writing Autumn Breeze, I was imagining what it’d be like to hear the song played by Mangione’s quartet, with the amazing flute of Chris Vadala and the 70-piece orchestra used on that album. Little did I know that 26 years later, I’d be recording this song with Chris! Ironically (or maybe not); during the session, after Chris had played this tune, and the other flute piece I had for him (Alone), Chris commented that he felt like he was playing Chase the Clouds Away…
